Maritime Forest tours at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park – June 10

Have you ever wondered how the forest in Barnegat Lighthouse State Park got there and what may live there? Staff from the NJ Forest Resource Education Center can answer all your questions during free, guided tours of the Maritime Forest at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park on Sunday, June 10 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The park is celebrating Great Outdoors Month by hosting this family friendly activity. The tours will take about 45 minutes to an hour and will start right outside the Visitor Center. Tours are limited to 20 people. Pre-registration is requested, but not required, and can be done by calling the Park Office at 609.494.2016.

Maritime Forest is a special forest type and our forest is one of the last remnants on New Jersey’s coast. Once you’re under the canopy you wouldn’t even know you’re “down the shore”. The Maritime Forest Trail also provides spectacular, sweeping views of Barnegat Lighthouse and Barnegat Inlet.

The New Jersey Forest Resource Education Center, in Jackson, NJ, provides educational programs about trees and forests and recreational opportunities such as hiking, fishing, biking, hunting and nature photography as well as special programs and a Fall Forestry Festival in October.
